How about a Vegan Maatu Pongal?

Cows are considered as God in our culture. And we worship them. But are they really treated well? They are said to be treated like family members in villages. But is this the story everywhere?
Most of us don’t know what is going on behind the screens of the dairy industry. Some of us know the facts, but we choose to ignore.

Cows produce milk for the same reason that humans do: to nourish their young.
Cows produce milk for baby cows. Not for baby horses or baby hippos or baby lions or baby girraffes or baby humans or adolescent humans or adult humans.

If almost everyone in our country drinks milk/tea/coffee/boost/complan/horlicks almost every morning, then do you think all of this milk is being produced naturally?
We shouldn’t forget that cows don’t give milk all their lives.
They are injected with harmones so that their lactation period increases.
But is this good for the cow? - Oh, why should we care, as long as we get that creamy glass of milk every morning, right?

In order to force cows to continue producing milk, factory farm operators typically impregnate them using artificial insemination every year. Calves are generally torn away from their mothers within a day of birth, which causes them both extreme distress. Mother cows can be heard calling for their calves for days.

Male calves are destined to end up in cramped veal crates or barren feedlots where they will be fattened for beef, and females are sentenced to the same sad fate as their mothers.
